Atopic Dermatitis

What is Atopic Dermatitis  ?

Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a chronic skin condition that causes red, itchy, and inflamed skin. It is a type of inflammatory skin condition that is often associated with allergies and is more common in people who have a family history of allergies, asthma, or hay fever.

Atopic dermatitis can occur at any age, but it is most common in infants and children. It is often accompanied by dry, sensitive skin and a strong desire to scratch the affected areas, which can lead to further irritation and skin damage. In severe cases, atopic dermatitis can cause the skin to crack and bleed.

Treatment for atopic dermatitis may include the use of moisturizers, topical corticosteroids, and other medications to reduce inflammation and itchiness. Avoiding triggers that can worsen the condition, such as certain types of detergents or soaps, can also be helpful in managing the condition. In some cases, a dermatologist may recommend phototherapy or other treatments to help control the symptoms of atopic dermatitis.
